The Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (MyBHA®) is the national representative body for licensed budget and business hotels across Malaysia, primarily focusing on establishments rated three stars and below. Established in 2001 as the Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (MBHA), it was renamed in 2019 to better reflect the inclusion of business-class hotel operators. MyBHA plays a critical role in advocating for its members, promoting professionalism, ethical practices, and service excellence while also facilitating networking, training, and collaboration through various initiatives. One such initiative is MyBHA Connect, a digital platform launched in 2023 that provides members with access to event listings, hotel directories, exclusive business offers, and an online marketplace. The association actively engages with government agencies and industry stakeholders to address key challenges such as the unregulated rise of short-term rental accommodations (STRAs), unfair commission practices by online travel agencies (OTAs), and burdensome licensing and tax requirements. MyBHA has raised concerns about how unlicensed STRAs and unregulated OTAs have significantly impacted hotel revenues and created an uneven playing field, urging the government to implement regulations that ensure fairness and parity. The association is also a strong advocate for inclusive tourism, supporting national campaigns such as Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) by pushing for the inclusion of budget hotels in promotional activities and government-led incentives. It promotes the Malaysia’s hospitality standard and supports digitalization to modernize member hotels through smart technologies. Despite challenges such as labor shortages, operational costs, and fragmented regulatory frameworks, MyBHA remains committed to safeguarding the interests of its members while driving innovation, sustainability, and growth within the budget and business hotel segment.
